2Syllabus of Chinese Language
To adapt this curriculum for a formal classroom environment, the content needs to be structured around contact hours, assessment frameworks, pedagogical strategies, and classroom dynamics.

Phase 1: Basic (Beginner to Elementary / 100–120 Contact Hours)

• Target: Complete beginners to HSK 2 / CEFR A2.

• Classroom Dynamics: High instructor-led interaction, choral repetition, paired speaking drills, and kinesthetic character practice.

• Pedagogical Strategy: Communicative Language Teaching (CLT) blended with heavy phonetic coaching. Pinyin is the primary scaffolding tool, but character recognition must be introduced immediately to prevent long-term phonetic dependency.

Syllabus & Milestones:
o Weeks 1–3: The Phonetic Bootcamp. Focus exclusively on the Pinyin matrix, tone tracking, and muscle memory for tricky initials (j,q,x,zh,ch,sh).

o Weeks 4–8: Survival Chinese. Immediate application of high-frequency vocabulary (family, numbers, time, food) through role-playing.

o Weeks 9–16: Basic Literacy. Introduction to the 30 most productive radicals and stroke order rules.

Assessment Framework:
o Formative: Weekly 10-minute Pinyin dictations and vocabulary quizzes; short, recorded speaking assignments (e.g., a 1-minute self-introduction video).

o Summative: A written midterm (Pinyin-to-character matching, basic sentence unscrambling) and a live, 3-minute oral exam with the instructor.

Phase 2: Intermediate (Pre-Intermediate to Upper-Intermediate / 150–180 Contact Hours)

• Target: HSK 3 to HSK 4 / CEFR B1–B2.

• Classroom Dynamics: Transition from teacher-centered to student-centered. Flipped classroom models work best here—students study grammar patterns at home, and class time is reserved for production.

• Pedagogical Strategy: Task-Based Language Teaching (TBLT). Students use the language to solve problems, complete projects, or negotiate scenarios. Pinyin is systematically phased out of reading materials.

Syllabus & Milestones:
o Weeks 1–6: Structural Mastery. Deep dive into the mechanics of the language (把 and 被 sentences, resultative and directional complements).

o Weeks 7–12: Paragraph-Length Discourse. Transitioning from isolated sentences to cohesive paragraphs using logical connectors (suīrán... dànshì...).

o Weeks 13–16: Real-World Navigation. Simulating complex real-world tasks like bargaining, describing medical symptoms, or resolving a customer service issue.

Assessment Framework:
o Formative: Bi-weekly character dictations (characters only, no Pinyin clues); bi-weekly 200-character composition submissions.

o Summative: A 5-minute individual presentation on a cultural or social topic, followed by Q&A; a comprehensive written exam covering reading comprehension, grammar corrections, and an essay.

Phase 3: Advanced (Advanced to Fluency / 180+ Contact Hours)

• Target: HSK 5 to HSK 6 / CEFR C1–C2.

• Classroom Dynamics: Seminar-style discussions, debates, and peer-review workshops. The instructor acts as a moderator and linguistic consultant rather than a lecturer.

• Pedagogical Strategy: Content-Based Instruction (CBI) and Textual Analysis. Language is acquired through the study of authentic, unedited materials: literature, news media, academic papers, and cinematic works.

Syllabus & Milestones:
o Weeks 1–5: Media Literacy. Analyzing current events via authentic news broadcasts (e.g., CCTV, Xinhua) and social media trends (Weibo/Xiaohongshu).

o Weeks 6–10: Idiomatic & Classical Integration. Formal integration of Chengyu (idioms) into speech and writing; identifying how classical grammar influences modern formal text.

o Weeks 11–16: Professional & Academic Chinese. Drafting formal reports, resumes, and delivering a 10-minute persuasive speech or policy debate.

Assessment Framework:
o Formative: Weekly current event summaries (written and spoken); peer-critiqued debate sessions.

o Summative: A 600+ character analytical research paper on a socio-economic or cultural issue; a formal, final oral defense/presentation before the class.

What age group or academic tier (e.g., university students, high schoolers, corporate adult learners) will this classroom curriculum be tailored for?
